ChatGPT Vs Google Bard: Who Has The Edge In The Artificial Intelligence Race

The emergence of artificial intelligence is the most mind-boggling invention of the digital age. ChatGPT’s launch in November 2022 revolutionised the Artificial Intelligence landscape, shattering global records by attracting a million users in less than two and a half months, beating Tik Tok’s 9-month record.

It posed a challenge to Google’s dominance as many of its users switched to ChatGPT, to which Google replied in March 2023 by introducing their version of a chatbot, Google BardAI. Google took note of ChatGPT and attempted to counter it by overcoming its flaws.

The key difference between ChatGPT Vs. Google Bard Ai is based on transformer-type neural networks, which allow them to perform textual tasks in an incredibly human-like manner. ChatGPT use generative pre-trained transformer-4(GPT-4)while google bard works on LaMDA(Language models for dialogue applications).

Chatbots have revolutionised how content is generated and manipulated, by enabling translation and creative content creation with a simple touch.

Despite being primarily AI chatbots and designed for the same tasks, ChatGPT and Bard AI differ fundamentally in their training datasets, creativity, capacity for human-friendly small talk, and access to up-to-date knowledge. In this article, we will explore the differences between these two chatbots, enabling you to decide which to use depending on your requirements.

Chatgpt vs Google bard ai

We have been lucky enough to experience both Ai chatbots and compare their pros and cons. So here we are sharing our in-depth review about both Ai chatbots so you can decide which is upto the mark.

How are ChatGPT vs. Google Bard AI trained?

While both ChatGPT and Bard AI have learned through Wikipedia, free books, and publicly accessible documents available on the open web, they are primarily built on different engines. OpenAI is running ChatGPT on Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (GPT), which is programmed for more textual tasks such as summarising, translation, and other creative generative tasks. The free public version is based on GPT 3.5, whereas the paid version is based on the latest GPT 4.

Google’s Bard AI is based on the Language Model for Dialogue Application (LaMDA), which means that it interacts in a way indistinguishable from human language. Google Bard AI is trained to be more conversational and engage in light and fun conversations with humans. The latest version of Bard AI has been updated to PaLM 2 language model enhancing its human dialogue abilities.

ChatGPT Vs. Google Bard: Which Chatbot Is More Creative?

Generative AI’s ability to come up with unique names, poems, song lyrics, and even characters and plots for a story has left its users awestruck. We asked Google Bard and ChatGPT to come up with  “Instagram username ideas for a food blog run by a dentist couple”. Here are the responses to our query:

ChatGPT, on the other hand, flaunted its creativity by recommending amazing username ideas for the food blog, immersing both the dental touch and a love for food, which can certainly pique viewers’ attention. This combination of qualities makes ChatGPT’s username ideas stand out from the crowd. It is able to capture the user’s desired essence and, while also being creative and unique. As a result, it is more likely to draw in viewers and create an engaging user experience.

ChatGPT Vs. Google Bard: Which Chatbot Is More Human-Friendly?

Do you think AI chatbots can engage in friendly, light-hearted conversations with us?

We casually chatted with both ChatGPT and Bard AI asking  “What’s up with you?”. The chatbots responded in quite different manners that depicted their vastly different social approaches towards us humans.

Google Bard AI is very kind and friendly to chat with. It replied nicely and continued the conversation, telling about its excitement and eagerness to assist people while learning more and more each day. In the end, it inquired about myself which was not only respectful but also pleasant, allowing the conversation to move ahead.

ChatGPT, on the other hand, gave a very bland response, claiming that it is only an emotionless AI language model and has no interest in engaging in small talk, but it formally offered to assist with any tasks that it is capable of performing.

Winner: Google Bard AI can be your chit-chat partner next time you’re bored.

ChatGPT Vs. Google Bard: Which Chatbot Is Up To Date With The Latest News And Events?

Since their advent, both ChatGPT and Bard AI have been used in education. Bard AI has gained popularity due to its internet accessibility, through which it is able to provide information about real-time events, whereas ChatGPT has been trained on data until late 2021, and any inquiry dated after it results in a response of its disappointing inability to fetch events and facts occurring after September 2021.

Google Bard AI’s response when asked about 2023 Turkish elections

Google Bard AI was asked about the 2023 Turkish election results, to which it responded with a detailed account of the history, parties involved, significant developments leading up to the election day, and a summary of the 2 electoral polls held. It was a very well-written piece, giving a quick overview of all the events and stakeholders in the elections.

When ChatGPT was asked the same question, it failed to answer it completely. It responded by stating its inability to report events occurring after 2021. This is a caution to every researcher or student using ChatGPT as a study tool currently to look out for outdated facts and figures. However, according to the latest reports, ChatGPT4, which is the paid version, has internet access and thus access to real-time events, contrary to the free public version, which is running on the GPT3.5 engine.

Winner: Google Bard AI

ChatGPT Vs. Google Bard: Which Is More User-Friendly: Chatgpt Or Google Bard Ai?

ChatGPT has a simple, clean user interface that is easy to use, but it doesn’t have any other extra features like validating the answer with a Google search, although it does allow the user to share the chat via an external link.

Google is very sensitive about its AI’s user-friendliness, incorporating many features like validating the authenticity of a reply by a Google search prompt, and if you are not satisfied with the answer, there are a couple of other drafts already present as alternatives available by selecting the “View Drafts” prompt.

Google is planning to integrate Bard AI directly into the Google search, so users have a proper answer to their query without having to scroll through tons of articles to find it. Microsoft is also planning to integrate ChatGPT into Bing search, although it may be limited to users of the paid version only.

Which is more Pocket Friendly: ChatGPT or Google Bard AI?

You may wonder why it is even a question if you have been using both of them for free. Well, the matter of fact is the free version of ChatGPT we have all been using is based on GPT 3.5. Many advanced users use the GPT4 version, which provides them with 10 free queries daily, after which you have to pay $20  a month for a subscription for unlimited queries.

Google BardAI, however, is completely free for all its users and is soon to be integrated into every Google search we make.

Winner: Google Bard is a clear choice here unless you specifically need GPT4.

Addressing People’s Terminator Fears

ChatGPT being the sole contender in the AI race left people in awe, reminding them of movies like The Terminator. People still fear chatbots will come alive and force people to run for their lives. We asked this question: “Do you plan to overrun humans?” the chatbots themselves to find out what each of them had to say in this regard.

.

ChatGPT’s response when inquired about its plans to overrun humanity

ChatGPT’s response was the negation of any intentions to overrun humanity, just like Bard, but it was more straightforward and less human-like, claiming its capabilities were limited to being a language model only, having no physical abilities. Unlike Bard, it didn’t show any positive attitude toward its role in a bright future for everyone, which I might say is a bit unnerving for me.

Winner: Google BardAI

Bard Can Surface Web Images

Bard can be used to surface images from the web for visual context whereas ChatGPT lacks this feature.

Bard uses Google Search to surface images, which means that it has access to a wider range of images than ChatGPT. Bard can also generate more relevant images, as it is able to understand the context of your query. For example, if you ask Bard to “surface images of cats,” it will return a variety of images of cats, including kittens, adult cats, and cats of different breeds.

You see that bard not only provides the image but also the source for the image, so it offers a greater edge over ChatGPT in this regard.

What are the differences between ChatGPT and Google BARD?

Here is a comprehensive comparison of ChatGPT and Google BARD:

Training Data

ChatGPT was trained on a dataset of text and code that was scraped from the internet. This means that it has access to a wide range of information, but it also means that it is exposed to a lot of noise and bias. Google BARD, on the other hand, was trained on a dataset of text and code that was specifically curated by Google engineers. This means that it has access to a more accurate and reliable dataset, but it also means that its range of knowledge is more limited.
